Why Christian Education Matters—And How This Church Has Made It Happen
OneChurch at Pleasantview in Derby, Kansas, lives out its mission—Love God, Love Others—by investing in the next generation through its partner school, OneLearning Academy.
Launched within the church just four years ago, OneLearning Academy began as a microschool with 12 students in a single classroom. It has since grown into a flourishing K–5 Christ-centered academy, housed within the church and deeply connected to its ministry.
Led by Pastor Dave Atherton, OneChurch doesn’t simply host the school—they nurture, support, and serve it as part of their calling. From providing space rent-free to helping renovate classrooms and cover facilities damaged by flooding, the church has consistently poured time, labor, and love into the academy’s growth.
Pastor Dave sees the school as a natural extension of the church’s mission—not a separate program, but a vital ministry that reaches families Monday through Friday with the gospel. OneChurch volunteers are regularly involved, and the entire leadership team celebrates the life and discipleship happening through education.
Together, OneChurch and OneLearning Academy are raising up students who are grounded in truth, formed by love, and equipped to live out their faith in the world.
